Keep these tips in mind as you plan your destination wedding.
Do send save-the-dates as early as possible. More notice usually equals more guests. Your family and friends will need time to book off from work, find babysitters and save money for the trip.
Do have a site visit before the wedding.
Do ask your on-site planner to suggest local favours, foods and drinks. You booked a destination wedding in another country; experience what that country has to offer!
Do secure the rings well during a beach ceremony. This is not the time for a clumsy ringbearer and a pillow. Keep the rings in the boxes and remove them carefully so they don’t end up in the sand.
Do take weather into consideration. Beach ceremonies can mean wind, heat and sometimes rain. Choose a dress, hairstyle and shoes to suit the environment.
Do invest in photography. This is a special day that deserves to be documented with style and expertise. If you have a photographer you love, try to work out a way that they can come along on the trip.
Don’t forget about a honeymoon. Sure, you just spent a week in paradise, but you were surrounded by your guests and likely stressed about the big day. After you exchange vows, stay an extra week to decompress. Switch resorts to make it feel like a true getaway.
Don’t skip the wedding planner. Organizing a wedding is hard enough, but from thousands of kilometres away –
even worse. Enlist the help of an expert.
Don’t abandon your guests. Sure, you’re busy, but your guests must be updated on all events. Provide an itinerary, maps and other necessary info in their hotel room.
Don’t pack your wedding dress, accessories, rings or any other Key items in your checked luggage. They are important carry-ons!
Don’t try to please everyone. Pick a date that works for all the important people (parents, siblings, wedding party) and go with it. Not everyone will be able to go, unfortunately.
